The Wet Plate Collodion Process.

I was very lucky to be able to attend a workshop, in the wet plate collodion process, presented by Dave Shrimpton, at Dimbola lodge. As is implied by the name, the plates are made with plates coated in when chemicals. Once they are coated, you have roughly 15 minutes to take the photo and develop it. They have a look, all of their own.

It was very apt, having the workshop at Dimbola, as it was the home of Julia Margaret Cameron, who is considered by many to be the originator of the creative portrait, using the wet plate process.

When I have the time, I will be pursuing this process as my main form of portraiture.
